VERTIGOS,

VERTIGO

Vertigo Contemporary is an exhibition and discursive space where the tensions and contradictions of urban life find a physical arena for representation.

Eighteen years ago, Vertigo Graffiti emerged in Bogotá as a platform for expanded conversations around urban art and graffiti. Over time, the project has evolved alongside the interests, circumstances, and inquiries of its artists and curatorial team. Yet its founding purpose has remained unchanged: to provoke meaningful dialogue about the city through artistic actions, propositions, and interventions.

In 2023, Vertigo Contemporary was formally inaugurated as a gallery project following an exhibition presented at the Gilberto Alzate Avendaño Foundation commemorating El Beso de los Invisibles, one of the collective’s most emblematic public works. That exhibition unfolded as a multilayered exploration of image, memory, territory, and public narratives surrounding the mural located on Bogotá’s Calle 26.

From that moment onward, Vertigo embraced the ambition of becoming a permanent exhibition space dedicated to artists whose practices engage with the city and contemporary forms of urban experience—without abandoning its interventions in public space.

The gallery was established in San Felipe, one of Bogotá’s emerging art districts, fostering an ongoing dialogue with neighboring cultural spaces, curators, artists, and independent initiatives. Since 2024, collaboration with other cultural agents has become essential to the growth of the project, enabling a dynamic and sustained program where the city remains both the central axis of creation and the conceptual framework of exhibition.

In 2025, Vertigo Contemporary was selected to participate in ARTBO, reaffirming the relevance and resonance of its curatorial vision within the contemporary Latin American art scene.

Ultimately, regardless of circumstance, the city continues. Its contradictions, frictions, and multiple realities persist—and it is precisely those unstable territories that Vertigo seeks to pursue in every exhibition and artistic proposal.

“Vertigo is a space for processes and experimentation. A corner and a roof for preserving what remains human. A contemporary art gallery with no nostalgia for immediacy.”
